The Department of Support Services at the Bronx Charter School for Children often refers members of our school community to a variety of helpful outside organizations.  In many cases, services are free.  Below please find some suggestions, in alphabetical order.

Dominican Sisters - The Ryan White Part D. Program

The Ryan White Title IV Program provides health care and support services for children, adolescents, women and families.  The Program utilizes comprehensive, community-based care systems, coordinated programs that include health, social outreach, education and prevention.  Among the services provided are case management, client advocacy, counseling, a women's group, HIV testing and counseling, and walk-in services. Services are free.

The Fisher Landau Center provides thorough evaluations for children with Developmental Disabilities and also provides comprehensive reading and math remediation services. Children are first evaluated to determine whether they qualify for remedial services.  Call 718-430-3900 to schedule an appointment for an evaluation.

The Mercy Center

Mercy Center is a community center for women and their families, which offers programs and services that empower women to reach their full potential and become agents of change in their families and communities, The Mercy Center offers English and computer classes.

Mott Haven Prevention Services

Mott Haven Prevention Services is open to the community and provides parenting classes and counseling in Spanish and English, advocacy for housing, immigration, and healthcare, self-help groups, referrals to healthcare and other community services, day care services, and some after-school activities for children.  Services are free.

National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)

NAMI provides information, support and resources for adults, children and families who have or are caring for members with mental health needs.  The organization includes various family support groups and information about parenting classes.

The Family Life Program

The Family Life Program is funded through the New York City Administration of Children's Services. Staff works intensively with families at risk for child abuse and neglect.  The goal of this program is to prevent placement of children outside of their homes by strengthening families through counseling, parent training, home management, substance abuse services and advocacy/referral.

Infant Toddler/Parent Program

The Infant Toddler/Parent Program addresses the need for early intervention services designed to promote age appropriate child development and to promote the overall well-being and parenting skills of the parents.  The program is both center-based and home-based.

The Puerto Rican Family Institute

The Puerto Rican Family Institute offers a comprehensive array of social and health care services that are culturally and linguistically relevant. Core services include mental health treatment, crisis intervention, placement prevention, residential care, and education.
