Inclusion Approach
At BCSC, we firmly believe that building community is at the
heart of our mission. We strive to create a learning
environment that caters to individual and group needs and inspires
conscientious interaction and positive collaboration.
Inclusion is really about:
- Respect for all people
- Appreciating differences
- Recognizing our common humanity
Being an inclusive community is really about:
- "Fair" is not "same"
- Acknowledging and celebrating uniqueness
- Treating others the way you want to be treated
The BCSC's academically rigorous school setting offers a
balanced, comprehensive instructional program, as well as the
social and educational supports necessary to empower students and
families to develop strengths and overcome challenges.
Special Education and At Risk Support
Classroom instruction is further enhanced by a comprehensive
team of professionals who are committed to meeting the needs of all
students.
- An Inclusion Program Manager and six learning specialists
(certified special education teachers) provide mandated and at-risk
student support while actively supporting differentiation of
instruction.
- Contracted, related service providers offer hearing services,
speech, occupational therapy, and physical therapy.
- A licensed psychologist and a school counselor provide
counseling, guidance, and resources to students and families.
- A Dean of Students & Families ensures that the BCSC is a
safe and cohesive community of learners.
